Still, I feel like all the weapons are viable. It's just about how much effort and properly assigned skill points do you need to get the most out of a weapon. Axe and Odachi are pretty easy, while tonfa and sword is a lot trickier for example.Devastating rush is great. Odachi barely has any bad skills. I tend to use the Switch stance from low and mid strong attack to high stance light attack then combo into twin moons. Experimenting with all the skills will help you find a style. I felt the same way you do about Odachi, about the katana until I starting playing with it in Nioh 2 NG+.
