Evaluation: Purpose is to determine effectiveness of a specific program or model and understand why a program may or may not be working. Goal is to improve programs. Research: Purpose is theory testing and to produce generalizable knowledge. Goal is to contribute to knowledge base. As this volume demonstrates, a wide variety of methodologies exist to evaluate particularly the objectives and outcomes of research and development programs.Gathering Data. To evaluate whether your policy and program are successful, you need (1) a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve; and (2) an assessment of whether the program is meeting the needs and goals that you identified when you assessed your workplace .
