Admission to Graduate Program. The Mathematics Department’s faculty and students are engaged in research activities in a variety of areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics. Both our MA and PhD degree programs feature a broad-based foundation and are flexible to accommodate specialization. Learn about graduate program.Seminars. Several of our research groups hold seminars throughout the semester. Some have interdisciplinary interests. Everyone on campus is invited to attend. In addition to our faculty and graduate students presenting their research, we have speakers from other programs on campus and invited speakers from other universities. Fred was a professor of mathematics at KU from 1962 to 2004. In 1985, he was named Chancellor’s Club Teaching Professor, a position he held until his retirement. He served as Director/Co-director of the Kansas Mathematics Workshops for Secondary School Teachers from 1989-1999. His son Erik is currently a professor in the math department.
